Medical Mission Academy

The USA has alarming statistics for those needing medical and dermatological care. DPAF is proud to support DermPAs in Dermatology Medical Missions to underserved communities where we can make an impact by providing the care and education needed most for those who need it. We will send DermPA on a mission within the USA every year. Together, we can make a difference and look forward to growing the number of Academy participants annually. Applications are open, with a deadline of May 15th, 2024.

Over 40% of US citizens live in areas underserved by dermatologists.

There are approximately 3.4 dermatologists per 100,000 population.

Barriers to care include income and proximity to specialty care.

Uninsured patients in the US have little or no access to healthcare.

Why you should join a Medical Mission?

To make a huge impact you don’t even need a passport.
Helping a marginalized community makes a major public health impact.
People need dermatology care now more than ever.

Our team consisted of nurses, pharmacists, Turkish doctors, dentists and volunteers from the Hatay area of Turkey where the earthquake struck earlier this year. We visited tents were families of all ages were living. Most with URI, skin rashes, sunburns and GI upset. The best experience was allowing two mothers hear their baby’s heartbeat for the first time. We would arrive and see the children run to our van excited for us to play soccer and color. It was truly an honor to be welcomed into their homes with open arms. They would offer tea as gratitude.  It was truly a magical place and hope to work another mission wi the IMR and possibly in Turkey again in the future.
